Saint-Hyacinthe is at the moment the hottest job market in Canada, according to a recent survey conducted by Express Employment Professionals. The rather small city located southeast of Montreal, in the Monteregie region of Quebec, has the largest number of positions available per 1.000 people. The area is diverse in terms of economic opportunities and has a strong dairy community and one of the largest agricultural fairs in the country.
It seems that most of the cities that made top 20 are smaller than anticipated, and only four major ones managed to climb the rankings. Edmonton ranked 8th, Mississauga 10th, Vancouver 15th and Calgary, once a leader, now ranked 19th.
The study also shows that job markets in Western Canada are not as huge as they used to be, and at the same time hiring in Eastern Canada has known quite a growth. In 2014, 7 out of 10 most important job markets were located in the western areas. This year we see an even split between these two major economies.
