Parent and Grandparent Super Visa: who can apply and why?

Happy Senior Woman Waving Canada Flag

A Parent and Grandparent Super Visa is a visa that allows the parents and grandparents of a Canadian citizen and permanent resident to arrive to Canada as visitor for up to two consecutive years at a time without having to renew their status.

This type of visa can even remain valid for more than 10 years. It also allows  the parents and grandparents to re-enter Canada during this period of time. The main intention of the Super Visa is to give the older generations of a family the opportunity to visit their loved ones who live in Canada for an extended period without work rights.

Who is eligible to apply for a Super Visa?

All parents or grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents are fully eligible to apply for a Super Visa. The candidates cannot be inadmissible to Canada on the basis of security or health. They may also be required to meet certain specific conditions set forth by the visa office through which they will make the application.

Unfortunately, you must know that the dependents cannot apply for this type of visa. This visa can only be available for parents or grandparents, together with their spouses or common-law partners.
