On December 7, Canadian’s federal Immigration Minister, Mr. John McCallum gave some great news to all spouses and common-law partners belonging to Family Class category. He claimed that the processing times for this category of people to gain their permanent residency status will be reduced by 12 months. Before, it lasted about 24 months. The main future goal of Canada’s Immigration process is to reduce this time by half making it last 6 months.
This news has been a great Christmas present for many couples who currently have an application processing and also, amazing news to all of them you’ve planned to apply in the future. The Canadian department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) has already made it clear that this change affects all people currently maintaining this status and all the future cases in order to make their system not to be a two-tiered one.
Only in the new upcoming year, Canada welcomes over 64,000 new permanent residents having the status of spouses, common-law partners or depended children of Canadian citizens.
Minister McCallum also declared that many factors are helping and will help the IRCC to reduce the processing times and also, restructuring the application processes. This will be made possible by no longer requiring certain documents up front; they will be required later so the waiting time can be significantly reduced. Also, in addition, there will probably be shorter and more efficient program guides and a single checklist across the board.
